It's really telling how ignorant Westerners are about the khalistan issue when they start bringing Hindu nationalism in. And I'm saying this as a non Hindu Indian liberal. 

Firstly, Sikhism is seen as a Dharmic, indigenous Indian religion by most Indians. So it's laughable to assume that Hindu Nationalists would have issues with it. They are more hostile and bigoted towards abrahamic religions. 

Secondly, Khalistan issue flared up during the reign of Congress, the current left wing opposition. The sikh riots were perpetrated by the Congress party and happened after Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguard for sending the army to take out Khalistanis holed up in the Golden Temple. 

This is a bipartisan issue. Secessionism is not tolerated in India, especially when the locals don't want it. Even if it wasn't Modi, you would be getting the same from India if it was the opposition in power, heck they would be even more sensitive to the Khalistan issue. 

It's second generation Indo-Canadians with identity issues with no skin in the game funding terrorists causing trouble for both, India and Canada.

Unless the state policy of political interference and supporting terrorists is dismantled it’s unlikely India will make any concessions. Best not to hope for unlikely things. Even ordinary folks from both the countries cannot have a rational conversation on social media without it turning racist in less than 3 exchanges. 

The unprofessional conduct of a PM to accuse India in parliament without proof hasn’t won any favours. The back sliding on freedom of speech and lack of action on justice to First Nations is something that India has kept quiet on but should not Canada get away with it.

India is not a meaningful trade partner with Canada. They are not a meaningful ally. In fact there is very little overlap between interests of the two countries. 

The only real deep connection Canada and India have is the diaspora in Canada, but the insistence of Modi on Hindu nationalism are no help here given Hindus are a minority of Indo-Canaduans.

Canada has nothing meaningful of value to gain from making concessions to India and Modi.

I’d much rather focus on improving relationships with China. They are our second largest trading partner, stable, pragmatic, technologically advanced and well funded. And in my personally experience, much more reliable to do business with. Most of us could not give less of a shit about India’s petty internal squabbles and do not want to participate in it in any ways.

You are out of touch. First of all, Canada has quotas and tariffs for USA import for long, long time. Canada Grain Act is from 1912 and last modified 40-50 years ago. According to it, US wheat can be classified just as the lowest quality and cannot be sold for human consumption. There is also Seed Act and other barriers. Since you obviously have internet, at this point you should be familiar with the tariffs Canada applies for USA dairy products, meet, fruits etc. This is well discussed and I am sure you know all these. You chose to listen to your corrupt PM, who I believe will be replaced in a day by his own party because he destroyed your country. About 10 years ago, GDP per capita for USA and Canada was equal. After 9 years Trudeau in office your GDP per capita is 40% lower than the American. He is leaving the office and this is his last chance to make some more damage so he is doing his best.

What Canada needs to do is to think of new trading partners and expand the scope of it. For starters it could tow down the tariffs with China which it largely imposed under US aegis. Canada seems to have a large number of immigrants from India - this could be used to strong arm India into a FTA for access to Indian markets including selling it Oil. Reenforcing the Canada Mexico FTA would be another way of hedging against US tariffs. A bigger political approach would be to side with EU on current Ukraine issue by simply toying the line that we are continuing what the US position on Ukraine was before Jan 2025 - this is particularly good in long term as it shows Canada is simply following what it believes its core values are in International arena rather than changing to the whims of a mercurial president.
